AS Evaluation

Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

From my opening I found that we represented two social groups, those of criminals and those of victims. From this I found examples from my film of how we represented them, through mise-en-scene, camera angles, edits and sounds.

The villain in our thriller was inspired by the Face Off villain played by Nicolas Cage. Whilst our victim was inspired by the Face Off villain played by John Travolta. The villain is inspired by the actions rather than the clothing as our villain clothing is meant to be similar to normal peoples clothes as he is trying to blend into his surroundings. The victim is inspired by the normal clothes, the Innocent nature their actions.

We also represented Female Victims in similar ways, again through camera angles and Mise-en-scene.

Question 3

What kind of media institute might distribute your media product and why?

I set up a blog which could be used by MARS Productions to distribute our film.

We have had 149 views on YouTube and 7 likes shown below...

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

I found that the pitch helped with the decision of certain elements such as the location which was a debate amongst the target audience. Some agreed that to have the two single characters on an empty station would bring a more tense effect. Whilst others believed that having people on the station would make it look more realistic. However we stuck with the majority of the target audience through the pitch view and the surveys we conducted and the knowledge of other films like Face Off where the villain and the victim are in an  area which appears to be relatively empty.

We also looked at what the audience wanted in terms of the lead part. We surveyed 50 people and 38 said that they would prefer a male lead. For this reason we stuck to the male lead as it would attract the audience as it was what they would prefer to make the film feel more tense and more like a thriller. We also looked at other thriller films which showed male leads in the majority. This made our decision easier and made the film a lot more attractive to the audience.

We used the key conventions, weapons, themes of identity, variety of shots and other key codes to make the film the most like a thriller we could get to be. We used the key conventions to appeal to the audience- the gun which connatates war and violence is a stereotypical prop which boys enjoy to see, so we used it to appeal to the audience. We felt that by adding more conventions it would be more attracting and would fit to the conventions of thrillers.

We also used the idea which was most appealing to the audience where the results were close. However idea 1 was the clear winner so we chose that to create the most audience appropriate and attracting product we could. The name of the product was also decided by the audience after thinking up names between us we chose the name most preferred by our audience to make it more appealing to them. This is why we named it TRACKER.

I interviewed Ashley, a member of our target audience he enjoys watching films and playing on computer games. I found that his favourite part of the film was the following gif. He described it as 'Action packed' and full of tension. He seemed to enjoy the location, however believed the costume could have been improved.
